Handmade coaster — 11 stages, three weeks of work

Every coaster in the set is made by hand using a ceramic technique of Arabic origin, cultivated in Portugal for over 500 years — today practised by only a handful of craftspeople in the world. The pattern is carved into a plaster mould, clay is pressed in by hand, and glaze is applied by pipette, colour by colour. The entire process involves 11 stages and takes around three weeks. The result is handmade functional ceramics with clear relief and rich, saturated colours that cannot be mistaken for mass production.
